Having lost my brother to suicide I am personally aware of how important the healing of men is. The suicide in men is three to five times more than that of woman. Why, because we have generations of men historically who find it difficult and often impossible to find safe spaces to face their wounds and their trauma.

My brothers pain was suppressed for years. Hidden by the need to provide for his family and a refusal by almost everyone that on the inside he wasn’t coping. What emerged out of that inner struggle was devastating for him, his children and our family. What could have been addressed if it had been admitted was the pain he had lived with for most of his life. His childhood trauma which has been brushed under the carpet and in effect suppressed and denied.

I look back and with hindsight see the cracks and the desperation and wish that I’d been able to help sooner. He was isolated and alone in a foreign country with little to no support or understanding. By the time we recognized his challenges and that he wasn’t able to overcome them himself it was too late.  Don’t let it be too late for you.
